Anyway, I’m pretty much the WORST at sticking to training schedules. I fully admit it. I’m really bad about setting these grand plans and write them on my calendar, and then work or life or whatever coming along and I’m like “Dueces!” to my planned workout.

I ran a grand total of TWICE this week. Yeah. I know. Totes super serious runner right here. But that’s the thing that’s cool about running once you’ve been doing it a while – you don’t just lose your abilities over night. Does training make it easier? Hell yes, it does. But I know that I can do it. And any runner will tell you: The mental is just as important as the physical when it comes to running.

So let’s talk about those whopping two runs (and cross training) I logged last week.

Monday: Long walk with the pup followed by planks, push ups, lunges, etc.

Wednesday: This was my first run since the Subaru Distance Classic half. I set out for a quick loop around the ‘hood just to get some miles in. It was Shark Week, so the miles felt way harder than they should’ve.

Followed it up with some planks! I’m really happy that my pace for shorter runs is consistently in the 10s these days. I’ve come a long way in the past year! I highly credit adding in more 400s, Fartleks, and hill runs for that increase in speed. I’ll get more into that another time.

Saturday: Saturday afternoon, I was cleaning my apartment and thinking about the ACC Championship when it dawned on me that I hadn’t run since Wednesday. I quickly threw on my shoes and headed out the door.

It was shockingly humid that afternoon, but overall, I felt strong on this run! Again, more planks and push ups. My shoulders have definitely been feeling them!

Sunday: Does running the circle at the tailgate count?

So… Where’s that leave me? Oh right: 3 weeks until the Jacksonville Bank Half Marathon and a little less than 6 weeks until ZOOMA Florida Half Marathon!

  1. My training plan printouts are always covered in tons of red ink from me adjusting and veering off-plan. It happens. 😉 And I agree with Brent, 12oz curls definitely help.
