Today I’m taking a quick intermission from photography boot camp this week to discuss something pretty exciting. Well, pretty exciting to me. I’ve made it really clear that I’ve been trying to step up my game in the photography department, so I figured it was time.
I finally bit the bullet & bought my first lens – a Nikon 35mm f/1.8G
Needless to say, I’ve been pretty distracted learning how my new friend works, so I haven’t had much time to concentrate on this week’s lesson.
The reason I chose the 35mm f/1.8 is because it performs well in low light (necessary for restaurants!) & it’s very affordable as far as lenses go. When I first started looking around, I was a little sticker-shocked at the expense of a good quality lens. I knew they’d be pricey, but damn! I did research & talked to photographer friends who had some great input. So far, I’m really happy with my purchase.
I love how it can give that beautifully blurry background with its wide-open aperture & still maintains a crisp focus. Naturally, as soon as I attached my lens to my camera, I turned to my little muse.
He’s really deep in thought. I assume he’s plotting world domination. But seriously? That was shot in my bedroom at 11 pm in really crappy lighting. No flash. I LOVE THIS LENS.
He has a really hard life.
