Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Any big plans for the game? We’re headed to a friend’s for a cookout and some beer drinkin’ (shocking, I know). Since the Jaguars aren’t playing, who do you have your money on? I’m going with the 49ers because we all know I have a massive love affair with San Francisco. Plus I think it’d be awesome for them to win since the Giants won the World Series this season too. Save me, San Francisco (is that my catch phrase yet?).
Anyway…. You know what else I have a massive love affair with?
Breakfast. And when we woke up
at 7:30 am SUPER DUPER early this morning, I knew we could beat the crowd at Metro Diner. I’ve been a few times, but I never remember to bring my camera. This morning, I was awake enough to grab it. We both stared at the menu for a while unsure of what to order – it all sounded so good. I debated between Biscuits and Gravy, Chicken and Waffles, and the Bissell Breakfast. As soon as he heard that Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict was a special, he was sold.
He says it was awesome, and he wouldn’t change a thing. His actual words were “It was perfecto”. So yeah.
I eventually settled on the Bissell Breakfast because I wanted eggs and bacon. Hash browns and toast are just bonus points.
And because I’ve been craving a Belgian Waffle for weeks, the waiter generously substituted a waffle in place of the pancakes for me.
The waffle was deliciously crispy and sweet, yet light. The eggs and hash browns were the greasy spoon delicacies I’d been craving. The only thing I would’ve changed is the bacon – it wasn’t quite crispy enough for my liking (but it was a great cut of bacon). You know what I was really digging? This is going to sound silly, but the plain toast with butter. I’m not sure why (maybe because I rarely ever have it), but it was rocking my world.
Breakfast at Metro Diner is always a winner – especially when you can get there early enough to beat the crowd. We got there at 8:30, and there wasn’t a wait yet. By the time we left, there was a substantial line.
