For our first night in San Francisco last month, we had reservations at Tyler Florence’s flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. I honestly didn’t know much about the place, but I trusted Jessica’s judgement (she’ll never steer you wrong – trust).
Since we were the #partybloggers, the meal started out with a toast, of course.
I chose a house red, which was wonderful. Jessica and Kristin both raved about their specialty cocktails.
After looking over the menu, we decided to split the organic fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, the braised pork shoulder, and some oysters.
I went right for the macaroni and cheese.
The dry cheddar and olive oil gave it a smoky, deep flavor. The breadcrumbs were just the icing on the amazing mac and cheese cake. So delicious.
Then I moved on to the braised pork shoulder.
I’m pretty sure I ate an entire pig on this trip. There was pork EVERYWHERE. But this pork was special – it was tender and juicy and completely melted in my mouth. Braised to perfection.
I saved the best for last – organic fried chicken.
Hey, Tyler Florence? I think I love you. As a Southern girl, I can tell you hands-down, this is the BEST fried chicken that I’ve ever put in my face. Seriously. It was juicy. It was tender. The flavor combination of buttermilk, lemon, garlic, and the woodsy herbs was unreal. I want to get on a plane right now and go eat it again. It’s THAT good.
My only regret is that we were too full for dessert.
