I know… It feels like forever since I reviewed anything in Jacksonville. I’ve been all about baking cupcakes, running & dining in Orlando lately. But when the guys behind Christopher’s Takeout reached out to me via Twitter regarding their new lunch & to-go dinner spot near Phillips & University, it sparked my interest.
When I stopped by for lunch, I was pleased to see the menu has a good variety of soups, salads, wraps & sandwiches. I thought it was really cool that one of the daily specials was collard greens that Christopher had grown in his own garden. How many places can say that? There was even a vegetarian option for the greens along with several vegetarian-friendly menu options – including a chickpea spinach & garlic soup:
The soup definitely had a unique (in a good way) taste to it. I’m a huge fan of chick peas & the huge chunks of carrots, onion, & spinach were clearly quite fresh.
After debating between the Devil telling me to eat fried food & the Angel telling me to get a salad, I decided on the buffalo chicken wrap with a side of Christopher’s mac:
The chicken was hot & moist & the batter was crispy & salty. The cheddar was melted & the lettuce was still crisp. There is nothing I hate more than a wrap or sandwich with soggy lettuce, so this definitely didn’t disappoint.
All of the menu items were a la carte, which is a nice change from the fries & a drink for a set price that other lunch places offer.
Isn’t that mac & cheese beautiful? I can promise you, it’s tastes as good as it looks. As close to perfect as it is on it’s own, I couldn’t help but fantasize about a little bit of bacon in it. That would be stellar.
& don’t be fooled by the name, as there’s plenty of seating inside if you choose to dine in:
Christopher’s Takeout is also now offering par-cooked dinner items to-go. For $15-25, you pick up a meal that feeds 2-4 people with a semi-homemade twist. Even better? The menu changes weekly. & the best part? They have a drive-thru window. Yeah. You heard that right. It’s like all the goodness of takeout, the satisfaction of homecooked & the laziness of the drive-thru all-in-one. Definitely looking forward to giving that a try.
