Biscotti’s in Avondale has long been a favorite of mine. I mean, the dessert case alone is praise-worthy & it’s impossible to go there without having dessert (It won’t be the last time you hear me say that). My boss actually took me to Biscotti’s my first day at my current company. I almost always take out-of-towners to Biscotti’s. One of the last times I was there, I actually said to the waiter, “Hey, I follow you on Twitter!” Every single time I’ve eaten there, it’s been the same – phenomenal. I love their outside seating & being able to look over the Avondale shops. Their vast wine selection always has a perfect partner for your meal.
I decided to take my mom there for Mother’s Day since she’d never been. Per usual, I didn’t even look at the menu, despite the fact that it’s stellar. The bistro-style menu ranges from pizzas to salads to open-faced meatloaf sandwiches.
I went straight for my all-time favorite, the Skirt Steak Salad (sans tomatoes):
I get specific cravings for this salad. The potato straws on top give it a perfect crunch. The pesto & parmesan yeast roll is divine. The bleu cheese & balsamic vinaigrette are simple compliments to the grilled skirt steak. It really is perfection in a salad & there is nothing about it I would change.
My mom ordered the Apple Dill Chicken Salad Wrap:
The pesto pasta salad was phenomenal. Typically, I shy away from pasta salad as most as mayo-based, but this pesto-based version was irresistible & had a slight hint of mustard as well.
Then there was dessert.
It’s impossible to go to Biscotti’s without ordering dessert (told you I’d say it again). It’s a fact. Try & do it. You can’t.
After taking a tour of the expansive dessert case, we picked the Coconut Cake:
The coconut cake is light & summery. The whipped cream style frosting is the right choice. Anything heavier (like buttercream) would definitely overwhelm the moist & fluffy cake.
Since it was too hard to pick just one, we ordered the Boston Cream Cake too:
The thin layer of pudding between each layer makes it creamy & delicious. I’m dying to try to recreate this at home.
I couldn’t decide which cake I liked more… Until I got home & realized how much I craved the Boston Cream Cake. You really can’t go wrong with either though.
Seriously. 10 out of 10. I love this place.
