Alphadog Grill

I had high hopes for Alphadog Grill, I really did.

I drive by the adorable bright yellow building on Park St. nearly every day & I always think to myself “I gotta try that place“. Alphadog Grill has a great outdoor seating area & a large variety of gourmet hot dogs (with a few vegan & vegetarian options as well). From a cursory glance at the drink menu, it appears as though they have decent happy hour specials too.

My mom chose the Das Weiner – a grilled bratwurst with sauerkraut & spicy brown mustard:

I picked the Vegan dog with vegetarian black bean chili & cheddar cheese:

While the vegan dog was actually a good fake & had a great texture, I didn’t find anything that special about the meal. It just wasn’t that good. My mom agreed about hers as well – it was okay, but nothing to write home about. If your specialty is hot dogs, I kind of expected to be wowed… & I just wasn’t. Very anti-climatic. The service was rather slow too (which is a huge pet peeve of mine).

Needless to say, I’m not exactly chomping at the bit to go back. Can’t like everything, right?

  1. We went a few weeks ago and sat outside (two tables nearby had people smoking, which I strongly dislike but it is outside so I guess that happens). We ordered our drinks then someone came and cleared/cleaned a table next to us and behind us where people had left. Whatever cleaning solution or spray was used spelled AWFUL — like pine — and it lingered. It was so bad we put a few dollars on the table to cover our drinks and left. Not off to a good start and we agreed there was no way we could eat with that smell blowing in the breeze. I’ve had the vegan dog once (St. Patty’s Day in Riverside, Alphadog had a booth set up) and it was good but agree with your findings – no “wow” factor. I wanted to love it too!
